Duties & Responsibilities

The Commissioner of Elections is responsible for all federal, state, and county elections including city, school, and special elections. The Auditor's Office receives nomination papers and public measures to be placed on ballots. The Commissioner prepares and monitors the processing of all the absentee ballots in order to aid voters who are unable to be at the polls on election day. As custodian of the election, the commissioner certifies the results of the state or local entity involved and issues certificate of election to the proper person

For all elections, polls will be open from 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM CST. In rare circumstances exceptions may apply. Contact your County Auditor for more information regarding polling place hours.

Voter Registration & Absentee Ballot Request Forms

To print off a voter registration form or an absentee ballot request form please click on the specific link below. Once printed, please fill out completely and mail it to Washington County Auditor's Office, P.O. Box 889, Washington, IA 52353. Please note an absentee ballot request cannot be accepted by the Auditor's Office more than 70 days before an election.
